Lanvin for H & M Launch ~ 23rd Nov

Friday, November 5th, 2010

When Lanvin’s exclusive collection for H&M arrives in store on November 23, the absolute essence of Lanvin will be available in around 200 stores worldwide.  With separate collections of womenswear and menswear, Alber Elbaz, artistic director of Lanvin, has created clothing of extraordinary ambition for H&M, bringing the codes of the house to make every single piece identifiably the work of Lanvin.

For women there are dresses of breathtaking cut and joyful colour, as well as pieces full of Parisian glamour and accessories with playful joie de vivre.  For men, it’s a whole new wardrobe of covetable updated classics, with tuxedos made for daywear and jogging pants adding a whole new sporting twist.

“What does luxury mean today?  Can luxury be exclusive and democratic at the same time?  How can we translate the essence of luxury to a wider audience?  The world around us is changing rapidly and I find myself asking these questions more and more.  Designer’s work is usually tailored to a very small group of people, but the collection for H&M was about trying to translate the dream of luxury to the masses.  It was almost like going back to school for me.” Alber Elbaz, Artistic Director of Lanvin.

“Alber Elbaz is so extremely skilled; it’s so rare to work with someone who is so attentive and involved in everything.  He is creating and styling all the time, it’s like this never-ending imagination.  Elbaz is quite unconventional in the way he tries to find new solutions and he fights for his own vision.  I admire him, he’s a real artist.”  Margareta van den Bosch, Creative Advisor at H&M.

If you’re lucky enough to even get in the queue for this fabulous collection,  I suggest you wear your flat shoes and run like crazy!!!   That’s the only way you are going to grab a piece of Lanvin any time soon!!  Either that or just go online and drool over pieces you are never going to own x

Kate Moss ~ Topshop Jewellery Range

Thursday, November 4th, 2010

The launch of a new Kate Moss for Topshop collection is always a highlight in the calendar.  But this time the style icon’s gone one step further and has unveiled a range of Seventies-inspired pieces featuring bell sleeves, chiffon and chintzy prints ~ and her first jewellery range.

Kate’s channelled her love of delicate vintage costume pieces for this elegant collection of cocktail rings, fine chain necklaces and pendants.

We love the intricate cocktail ring, made of oxidised metal, Swarovski stones and semi-precious beads, and the star necklace inspired by Kate’s own tattoos.  We suggest layering up the fine chains and wearing multiple rings on each hand.

In stores Tuesday 2nd November, this will be Kate’s last regular seasonal collection for Topshop.  So really do get it before it goes!!!

Excerpts from Stylist Magazine ~ Available every Wed in London, Brighton, Bristol, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Manchester, Newcastle, Leeds, Liverpool and Birmingham, as well as in French Connection Stores and Airport Lounges during the week.

Introducing ‘And Mary’

Friday, October 1st, 2010

And Mary was launched in 2009 by Alison and McNeil.

Alison had been lured back up to the Highlands of Scotland, by the ruggedly Handsome McNeil and the promise of a dog called Elvis, after many years living a fanciful single life in London. Alison had always had two main loves in life; the first was enjoying great food and drinks with wonderful friends and family. The second was vintage fashion and trawling the many antique and vintage markets in London and Paris. Always in search of a hidden treasure that had many stories to tell or, alternatively, one of her famous bargain polyester printed dresses.

After taking on a new job selling gorgeous clothing to the many lovely boutiques and independent retailers in Scotland, Alison discovered that they were in need of some quirky but beautiful jewellery and accessories. They needed to be good quality yet still reasonably priced and most importantly to offer customers a unique and individual alternative to what was available on the High Street.

Soon the time that was once spent in bars in the big smoke became time spent designing and creating what has now become the And Mary range. The kitchen table was quickly transformed from a place to eat to a hive of jewellery making activity. Covered in charms and jewellery from years of purchases, at vintage fairs and flea markets, the first collection from And Mary began to take shape.

If you need the Perfect Present for Someone Special, a gift from And Mary will be as unique and lovely as the person you are giving to or if you feel the need to indulge in your guilty shopping pleasures or give yourself a well deserved treat, the collections from And Mary will offer you the fabulous fix you have been looking for.

Perhaps you are in need of a Fabulous Accessory for a special occasion or for the perfect finish to your favourite outfit, look no further than here, from their glamorous hairpieces to their quirky jewellery And Mary will satisfy your every need.  And Mary’s lovely leather purses are all lined in vibrant raw silk or satin.

Fantastic Interiors

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

I don’t know what’s wrong with me at the moment but I’m really getting inspired by some beautiful interiors and fantastic furniture and wanted to share with you the wonderful things I’ve found.  I adore Danish fashion! I don’t know why but I just love the simple shapes, beautiful prints and great quality.   Marlene Birger is a fantastic designer and I just love the prints she produces so you can imagine my excitement when I stumbled across these beautiful shots of her home!  Take a look and let me know what you think.

I can’t help be inspired and it sent my mind on a whirlwind of ideas to use and impliment into my own home.  I don’t know about you but I struggle finding unique furniture too.  I love Phillipe Stark and his organic designs but I wanted to be resourceful and recycle.  Well look what I also found!!  Recycled furniture made even more beautiful with the clever use of wallpaper and a good quality paint!!   Bryonie Porter has produced some beautiful furniture by recycling old pieces.  Recycling, eco friendly and beautiful!!

I’m inspired, what about you??

Harem? Trend or faux pas?

Wednesday, June 9th, 2010

SOME trends are simply puzzling. Like the array of printed summer trousers out there – with brain-bending colours, zigzags and graphic manipulations worthy of an ambient screen saver.

Givenchy

Givenchy offers one of the best examples of how to elevate the look from the stalls of Brick Lane. Riccardo Tisci’s chic, sharp Op-Art suiting deserves to be stared at – think Magic Eye for the style discerning. Impress the summer social set with comments on your own ensemble -”Tisci’s appreciation of tone and dimension remind me of Bridget Riley”- as the clever patterns define your curves.

Duro Olowu

The artistic license continues at Duro Olowu - whose bright cotton harem pants were inspired by “the vivid colors and spirit of Picasso’s ‘mosqueteros’ paintings”. They will be quite the holiday master-piece paired with tan wedges and a clashing print shirt. If you are unsure how to dress your pegs for evening, take a cute cue from Marc by Marc Jacobs, whose midnight raw silk stripe strides made a successful coupling with a clashing bustier.

Marc by Marc Jacobs

Banish thoughts of your gap-year or that bizarre festival juggler, and look for a great cut in crisp cotton or shantung silk – they will instantly electrify your summer wardrobe.   Match your trousers with a simple vest, a man’s silk pyjama top or a white YSL rive gauche Le Smoking.

Introducing Me & Thee

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

After winter’s dark mood, prints emerged on the spring summer catwalks. There were hot hues, striking monochrome stripes and florals in every incarnation from delicate buds to exploding blooms, as well as fashion’s newest innovation – techno prints, inspired and influenced by computer generated designs and the continued collision between technology and textile design.

Floral (Roberto Cavalli)

Roberto Cavalli ushered in a new mood in Milan. Delicate chiffons printed with rose buds and spring blooms added femininity and lightness when layered over and under tailoring, knitwear and denim.

Techno Print (Peter Pilotto)

Peter Pilotto are fashion’s hottest new design stars right now. The boys wowed London Fashion week with their accomplished collection of techno prints inspired by natural landscapes – which were showcased in dynamic, sculptural silhouettes like this striking dress. This is the label on everyone’s lips for spring 2010, confirming techno prints as the print to wear now.

Tie Dye (Proenza Schouler)

The Proenza Schouler show is a New York Fashion week highlight. This season Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez were inspired by scuba diving, surfing and skating – all sunny pastimes from their youths. The result? Beach inspired tie-die prints that looked modern and fresh – you could almost smell the sea.

Arrived is this ‘Fine Art’ dress, from a company called ‘Me & Thee’.  ‘Me & Thee’ are the brain child of Joanne and Brian, both trained and worked in graphics and printing for major High Street stores before deciding to venture out on their own.  Me & Thee incorporate both florals and techno prints in their collection, both of these printing techniques are to be found in our collection of ‘Me & Thee’ so check back at the end of the week to see our full collection.  One word ‘Beautiful’

Lingerie Display

Thursday, April 22nd, 2010

As faithful readers of Citrine’s blog no doubt know, boudoir-inspired styles are having a major moment right now and it’s all about lingerie galore this spring! While your mother might not approve of these lingerie looks, ’tis the season to reveal your underpinnings—in a fashionable way, of course! Of course, showing off one’s foundation garments can be a decidedly tricky proposition, which is why it’s good to know how directional dressers like Gwen Stefani and Irina Lazareanu execute this runway look in real life.

Of course, it’s also intriguing to see how trendsetters are interpreting the trend—especially since the subsequent outfits are so fabulous! Much like the looks at Fendi, our favourite celebrity styles are perfectly tempered and offer a combination of diaphanous tops with covered legs. The most popular way to balance a lingerie-showing shirt is to pair it with some jaunty pants, as Irina Lazareanu and Margherita Missoni recently did, albeit in very different ways. Lazareanu turned up at Anna Sui’s F/W 10 show wearing a sheer YSL blouse tucked into wide-leg trousers and topped with a tux blazer, while Missoni attended a Tar Magazine dinner in Milan last week clad in Missoni’s Sissy Tank Top and Sofia Cropped Cardigan with a pair of floral Kenzo harem pants.

If you are inspired by the lingerie looks here check out our lingerie inspired dress below:
