Fashion’s ALT-ernative!!!!

Wednesday, January 26th, 2011

The fash-pack were thrown into a tizzy during the usually quiet Christmas period, When the news hit that fashion editrix Carine Roitfeld was to end her super-successful 10-year tenure as Editor-in-Chief at Vogue Paris!  As you can imagine, the blogs were buzzing with rumours about who would replace the FROW favourite.  Our inital thought was that her right-hand woman (and street-style photographers’ fave!), Emmanuelle Alt, 41, would bag the job.  And guess what……..?

Alt, who was previously fashion director, has not only created some very memorable fashion pages but has the Midas touch in championing brands like Balmain and Isabel Marant.  ’It is a great honour for me, and also a great pleasure for me to be offered the job of the head of Vogue Paris, which I know so well,’ she said of last weeks ammouncement.  When she takes up her new role on 1st Feb, you’ll discover a great USP (that’s unique style point!) to steal.

She’ll never be a bonkers Ana Dello Russo type, or sternly bobbed and barbed like Anna Wintour, nor does she share Carine’s overtly sexy aesthetic.  No, Emmanuelle’s signature style is simple. boyish, luxurious rock and always recognisable.  Pencil thin trousers (motorcross jeans, tailored pants or skinny leathers!), hugging those endlessly long legs, will most usually be paired with either a leather biker jacket or a sharp blazer.

Emmanuelle, like all the best French fashionistas (Carine included), manages to rock that out-of-bed scruffy hair we Brit girls so envy and she has enough cheekbone to render make-up practically unnecessary.  A fabulous ALT-ernative, for sure!!!!!!

Feeling Tribal? ~ SS 11 Trends

Saturday, January 22nd, 2011

SASS & BIDE has unveiled its pre-fall 2011 collection – an offering the designer duo hope will appeal to “the curious and creative”.

“Pre-Fall was inspired by a collection of ideas, places and feelings,” the pair tell us. “You can see cultural influences from Africa and South America in the prints. We explored draping and layering techniques but wanted to the overall feel to remain relaxed and simplified.”

Featuring a gorgeous pair of matte sequinned trousers (the designers’ personal favourite), the collection follows a distinctly tribal theme, with plenty of Aztec-style prints, statement fringing and pared-down draping in muted tones.

“The last collection was really energetic – digital-print heavy and full of colour,” say the designers, Sarah-Jane Clarke and Heidi Middleton. “This collection is more subdued and sees a break in colour and a focus on draping, handmade prints and alternative textures.”

The new range will arrive in stores in May, but you can check it out here http://www.vogue.co.uk/fashion/show.aspx/full-length-photos/id,10106/Page,1

Then you’ll be pleased as punch that the denim world is your oyster this season – with loads of different flared silhouettes on offer.  Countless spring/summer catwalk collections shimmied up to the ’70s, so we weren’t surprised to discover that buyers are going crazy once more for the classic ‘Lovestory’, as well as cool new ‘It’ US denim label Mother and their fabulous wilder flares.

So welcome back ‘Lovestory’s’ and welcome back the 70s!!!
